All he wanted to do was watch the game.

He was settled in. He had his house shoes on and his feet up. When suddenly he was called upon to brave the confusing aisles of the grocery store. It was just supposed to be "a couple of things” but as John will soon learn, there’s no such things as a "quick trip" to the store.

Benjamin Wallace might disagree when I say there’s some biting social commentary and artful observations about relationship dynamics underpinning this story. The subtext is too good to have been included without thought, too consistent to be accidental or incidental. How else could you make such a mundane subject—a man’s trip to a grocery store—interesting? Whatever you get from the story, you’ll get plenty of laughs. Perfectly weighted, not too long, not too short, and easily one of the funniest stories I’ve read for a good while. I’m still chuckling as I write this review and it's not canned laughter.

I smiled and even laughed throughout this book. It's such a good look at how so many of us are! The author has great insight, and a good way with words/stories. I hope to find more of this! )
Sadly, I am the female version quite often. And my honey dresses appropriately for the store on his own. But this is hilarious, excellent writing.
.
A funny and well-written short story about a grocery run imposing on watching sports. Well written, describing events that delayed getting back to the couch but not complaining so much observing.
I just simply loved this book. If laughing is healthy, as they say, I think this book did a lot for my general health.

Maybe I enjoyed this book so much because I can fully relate to it. My dear, sweet husband (a highly intelligent physicist, albeit without a trace of common sense) needs two pages of instructions when I send him to buy a bunch of bananas. And about leaving the house in house shoes My husband once managed to fly from Munich to Salt Lake City in house shoes.

My dear author of the "Dumb White Husband"-series If you should ever run out of material for these books, just call me. I'll be able to supply you with plenty.

My husband, by the way, did not find this book funny. For him the behaviour of the "Dumb White Husband" was normal. And this made me laugh even more.

I'll now buy all the other "Dumb White Husband" books as I might be able to relate to them as well.
I wanted to read this because I needed something lighthearted to pick up my mood. Well, this certainly did that! It was so funny, I'm still laughing. Talk about hitting the nail on the head. If you need a good laugh, or just need some honest entertainment, BUY THIS STORY! You won't regret it.
This is not a book. It's not even a pamphlet. There have been longer stories packaged inside bubble gum wrappers. This download in 1 second....at a 6 mg per minute router. The story is about a slob husband that's needs to pick up a few things at the store for wifey poo. There was a running joke ....." he only hurt himself a little" ...within the story, now that I've read the story at lunch ( 15minutes tops).... it only hurt a little. This was free from today, so no harm no foul, just don't wait to read this during vacation...but , because of its length,it would be a great read, beginning to end, in the john
So true. It is not only husbands though .. teenage daughters sent out for a last run (by despotic grown-ups, not just mothers), or even a wife by a chef {ex} husband... I remember being confused over chicken when a teenage daughter .. (in an emerging market country you almost cannot get confused because there is one of each - one milk, one yoghurt, one cheese, etc.) and then, fast forward, the spices when married, and then shopping in North America has given me panic attacks, a few in the beginning over steering the cart, not to mention a panic attack over 5 kinds of butter, etc. I had not completely gotten over it before I married. I still have shock. In organic markets.
